It's much harder to handle unscripted moments, like joining a group chat, networking, or small talk.   If you feel fluent at work but stuck at the party, use these tips to navigate those "in-between" moments with confidence. They're often the ones that actually shape your global career. Tiny lessons Networking in English Great tips for casual conversations Read all the tips → Ask follow up questions: "Can you tell me more about that?" Paraphrase: "So you're saying X?" (shows you're listening + buys you time). Have a response ready for "So, what do you do?" If it feels awkward, ask another question. Exit in 3 steps: positive summary + reason to move on + next step ("I've really enjoyed hearing about X. I'll let you grab a drink. Can I connect on LinkedIn?" Joining a Group Conversation Tips for when English is not your first language Read all the insights → Jump in earlier than feels comfortable. Make brief eye contact.
